On October 17, 2007 Love Our Children USA in partnership with the New York State Office of Cyber Security and Critical Infrastructure Coordination (CSCIC) and other public and private sector organizations, hosted the 3rd Annual New York State Cyber Security Awareness Conference Kids Safe Online.
The day was a great success, attended by almost 1,000 students, teachers, parents, law enforcement and others throughout 38 states. The Conference, held each October in recognition of National Cyber Security Awareness Month, featured a variety of sessions focused on how to keep children safe while using the Internet. The goal, as it is every year, was to raise awareness and offer solutions to ensure online safety for children. Governor Elliott Spitzer issued a proclamation recognizing Cyber Security Awareness Month in New York State.
A VIP Reception held at the New York State Museum kicked off the Conference on the evening of October 16th. Remarks were provided by William Pelgrin, NYS CSCIC Director, Michael Balboni, Deputy Secretary for Public Safety for Governor Spitzer.
Deputy Secretary Balboni announced the winners of the New York State Cyber Security Poster Art Contest, which was open to all New York State students in the fourth and fifth grades. The contest was a great opportunity for students to be creative in expressing their understanding of good cyber security practices. Entries were judged based on creativity, originality and concept.
The 1st place winner was a 5th grader from W.S. Mount Elementary School in Stony Brook, who received an iPod Nano.
The three runner ups who received an iPod Shuffle included:

In addition to the adult workshop sessions, the Conference featured a special session for children. Krysten Moore, Miss Teen New Jersey International 2007, and the Bullying and Cyber Bullying Prevention Spokesperson for Love Our Children USA, spoke with 4th and 5th grade students who attended the special session. Krysten spoke with the children about cyber bullying, what it is, how to prevent it, and how not to be a victim. Later, the children learned a lot from Krysten's Question & Answer Session.
The 4th and 5th graders watched an interactive play entitled, Cyber Citizens: Defenders of Cyberspace which was broadcast live over the Internet, and rebroadcast that day throughout several time zones. Approximately 10,000 students, parents and teachers from 38 states participated in the broadcasts.
Love Our Children USA Advisory Board Member Robin Raskin, author, nationally recognized technology expert and advocate for online safety provided a compelling keynote speech, with a hands-on demonstration of how children use the Internet, its potential dangers on social networking sites, and what parents should do to minimize risk.
The day ended with a live chat-room demonstration from the FBI with an eye-opening real-time display illustrating how prevalent online predators are and how parents can protect their children.
Love Our Children USA was proud to partner in this event and looks forward to many more so we can KEEP OUR CHILDREN SAFE.
