Hockey For Heroes Event
And Love Our Children USA

On May 16 and 17th, 2003 Love Our Children USA participated in the Hockey For Heroes Gala and Tournament. The event, a vision of many former NHL players, the NYPD, the FDNY and the PAPD was created in the aftermath of September 11th - in the spirit of hockey and camaraderie, raising sticks to the sky … honoring the lives of our lost heroes.

Hosted by the NHL and Ron Dugay, Alan Thicke and Robin Wyss of Alumni Celebrity All Stars, the events were held at The Grand Hyatt Hotel and Chelsea Piers in New York City. Recognizing that children have been at greater risk of abuse since 9-11, Love Our Children USA was chosen to receive net proceeds of the event along with the Widow's and Children's organizations of the NYPD, FDNY, and PAPD.

Love Our Children USA was thrilled to have actor Alan Thicke of our Celebrity Board of Governors address the audience about the issue and statistics of child abuse and our organization.

Many NHL Alumni such as Rod Gilbert, and alums from the New York Rangers, New York Islanders, and New Jersey Devils, along with other celebrities attended the event. David Clayton-Thomas of Blood Sweat & Tears performed his new solo "The Lights Of Broadway" and received a standing ovation. He wrote and recorded the song which us dedicated to the heroes of 9/11.The song depicts Lady Liberty standing in the harbor, covered with dust and ashes, while uptown the lights of Broadway still bravely shine through the smoke.
